I took a drive out of an another pc that I had my backups on err atleast a lot of junk and transfered that drive to a vista pc. Computer sees the drive in the BIOS and Device Manager but logical disk manager doesnt see it. When i click on volume it says volume information for this drive cannot be found. I looked at smartctl info drive tests show the drive is working fine I just cant access it, whats up?

The drive was installed on a windows xp system 32bit this one is vista 64bit if it matters

The said drive I cant see is ntfs

just to update I put the drive back into the other system and its fine just my new pc (vista one) doesnt like it. I took another drive from that system put it in here and it see it just fine? err what gives

Have you initialized the drive in the Disk Management window? Does it indicate the file system it detects? Some drives are detected as RAW instead of FAT32 or NTFS if something has happened to it.

It wont detect the drive in the disk manager I was reading about file system types and in the message its dynamic how it got that way im not to sure but apparently vista cannot read this so im moving the contents off the drive now and going to reformat it. Ill update my thread if this works and was the problem im thinking it was
