| Server 2008 Enterprise | Disabling drivers/devices Hi, I am having trouble with the infamous Palm / x64 OS battle. I am using Vista Business x64. As is the case, Palm/ACCESS have no support/compatibility for x64 operating systems, and never plan to do so. The software will install on x64, there just are no x64 USB drivers for palm devices. That is fine, because the connection works fine over bluetooth. The problem is that I have a USB cradle that I use to charge the phone. It uses the USB connection to power the charger. That is all I want to use it for. When I connect my Treo to charge it using the cradle Vista obsessively keeps trying to tell me that a malfunctioning USB device is not being recognized. I have tried disabling the device, and it still complains. The behaviour I get is every second or so an error sound plays and displays a warning message, which is obviously annoying. I'm looking for some way to use the USB charger, but not allow any sort of interaction between the palm device and windows. If the driver issue can be fixed to the point that the error annoyance goes away, that is fine too. Thanks, Mike |

| | Re: Disabling drivers/devices I had a Nokia mobile with a usb cradle, it had frequent problems when attempting to connect. The problem was the cradle connections. Connecting the phone direct to PC usb and all was OK "deucejmp" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:153d7253706f6d431346b5e9d13d259f@xxxxxx-gateway.com... | Server 2008 Enterprise | Re: Disabling drivers/devices Thank you for your response. If by "direct" you mean connecting it with the USB cable that came with the device, that didn't make a difference. The problem is that there are no drivers available for 64-bit. Is that the same case with your Nokia, that 64-bit drivers were available? When you connect with your Nokia via the cable, instead of the cradle, does Vista x64 ignore the device correctly? Thanks, Mike |

| | Re: Disabling drivers/devices I was merely mentioning that a cradle device was problomatic for me, whilst a direct connection was fine it wasnt a 64bit specific answer. As far as I'm aware using a usb cable to charge a device should not involve any drivers "deucejmp" <guest@xxxxxx-email.com> wrote in message news:d4b6282c3392b31e14f1f117fe7c499a@xxxxxx-gateway.com... | Server 2008 Enterprise | Re: Disabling drivers/devices That is correct--charging shouldn't require drivers, but the USB is connected to the computer. The device will charge normally, it's just that windows obsessively gives an error because it can't find a driver. I get the message "USB Device Not Recognized" every second. |
