| | ATi Mobility Radeon 9600 Hi, I am using an Asus A2D notebook with a Mobility Radeon 9600, which ostensibly is supported by ATi's Catalyst RC1 for Vista, however, while the driver installs successfully, it fails to load/initialise, and I am stuck with no 3d accelleration. The 'driver' provided by Vista also behaves the same way. I can only assume that this is because Asus notebooks are not supported by ATi (aparently not by Asus either, although this is hardly surprising). My only (semi) solution at the moment is to use the Mobility Catalyst for Windows XP, which while providing hardware acceleration is somewhat unstable in Vista (tho fantastic in XP) i get BSOD's upon shut down, restart, hibernate, u name it. I also get freezes when playing DVD's (but not other video files so far), which is fixed by disabling all forms of hardware acceleration in the playback software. Does anyone have a better solution or workaround? Or better yet, a proper striker? Thanks in advance for any help. |

| | RE: ATi Mobility Radeon 9600 Sorry, that end part should read 'a proper driver' not striker. As I'm sure you all figured, I was watching soccer while typing the post. Still need suggestions though... | | Re: ATi Mobility Radeon 9600 There are big driver problems with ATI cards. And the vista VGA driver is very bad and does not support higher resolutions. JMS |
