Vista - cd-dvd drive doesnt work

hey ive been busy for a while and havent used my computer for a while
and now i started to use it again but when i try to put a cd in nothin
happens u can only hear it spinnin and nothin and also when i click on
dvd drive in my computer it says applicatin not found help plz
im runnin windows vista home premium hp pavilion dv6700 notebook

I was compiling a reply to another news post, and added my comments to the
wrong message.

Try the following steps:

1. Check device manager for any ! or ? marks on the system.
2. If yes, then run this patch: http://gur.in/registry/cdgone.reg
3. Open command prompt, then type in D: (press enter) [D refers to the drive letter of the optical drive]
4. Try to boot using the windows vista dvd.
