Vista - VISTA on boot ignores all optical drives

I am wondering if my BIOS would keep the boot up from recognizing the optical drives and allowing the optical drive to boot up. Needless to say, installing anything gets tough with this problem. I am hoping someone will have some ideas...I want to install unbuntu as a dual boot with VISTA.

The boot order is set in BIOS, not by Windows. You need to configure your
computer's start-up sequence to boot from CD/DVD first. Check your
computer/motherboard manual or support site for details on how to do this.

Yes despite my setting it up exactly as you say...the optical drives are ignored on boot up. If I don't list the hard drives, the message is that I have a non system disk...Thanks for the help, I just wish it were that simple.

I wonder if the hard drives can be completely wiped of every mbr in history and be refreshed to original out of box condition. I may be asking in the wrong place, but as you can probably tell, it's gotten a bit too frustrating.

I have never had any problem with any Vista systems seeing optical drives
I have my Bios set to boot from one of my optical drives first and from my
Windows installation Hard drive second.
If there is not media in the optical drives the system boots from the
windows hared drive.
If there is media in the optical drive that I want to boot from then I have
to "Hit any key" in 20 seconds otherwise the system boots from the Windows
hard drive.

I am posting the above since your post does not contain the instructions
that you followed I have no idea how your Bios is set up
