Vista - cdrom.sys

I have recently installed Windows Vista RC2 (Build 5744) and after installing
many games on it, I installed Nero and programs such as Alcohol 120% & Daemon
Tools.... (The disk drives were working fine at this point)

After I re-botted I went to my computer and there was no DVD/CD Drives
displayed. I then uninstalled the drivers and re-booted, and I still have the
same problem. After doing this I went into the DVD-Driver properties, and it
said something like "Failed to load cdrom.sys, it may be corrupted or
missing."

If anyone could help me I would really appreciate it, as I cannot use any of
my DVD/CD drives. (Virtual & Mechanical)

OH yes the famous CD/DVD disappearing trick!!
OK this worked for me in BETA2 and intermittant luck in current build.
first > then > etc.

1. device manager > click on CD drives and highlight one at a time > Actions
> uninstall (do this for both) > Shutdown wait for 30sec and restart

2. if it failed > start > type in search "system" > choose "system restore"
> follow prompts and restore computer to just BEFORE the first driver you
installed prior to loosing the drives > follow steps to reboot

3. if you dont have a restore point (new build is not keeping them on my
systems for some reason) uninstall ALL (well just the ones you just
installed) the drivers reboot

4. if that did not work turn computer off unplug the IDE cable for the
cd/dvd drive and boot computer. once it is up and running (completely)
SHUTDOWN (getting tiring isnt it?) replug the IDE cable to your drives and
turn it on

5. if that did not work, well........

repost or re-install; thats is where im at with a resent driver install for
my printer. MS says it is the MFG responsibility to fix the drivers, i say
they are equally responsible because you should not have a driver that
interferes so much that causes drives to fail. not sure but i think the issue
is with kernel.

why not first try to fix the problem at hand?
if it says the cdrom.sys is corrupted, try to overwrite it with the file
from vista installation dvd. maybe demon tools switched it with an earlier
version?
system restore should work, but it will undo a lot of work.

this is very true yoniy, however the cdrom.sys is most likely not corrupted
and reinstalling may fix it but it has never worked for me. in the past
system restore has been a saver unfortunately in current build 5728 no
restore points are being kept, even if manually created.
