| | Windows Vista RC1's Lack of Midi Settings? Why does vista lack the ability to select a midi output device? Midi is not obsolete, I and many sound artists still use this technology. Microsoft has limited output to the GS software synth and not provided an easy way to change it in the sound settings. All I was able to do is right click the "speakers" and find a midi "about box" for the GS software synth. This is unacceptable. Is there a registry hack or some other small program with which to change the default output device or is Microsoft going to get sued again? |

Some Creative SB cards are bundled with a Soundfont Manager utility, which may effectively overcome this - or may not. Unfortunately, it may not work with Vista until after the final version hits the market. I did get it to load in RC1, but cannot in RC2. Perhaps others will contribute knowledgeable words to this thread... |

| | Re: Windows Vista RC1's Lack of Midi Settings? Yeah, I was able to load my soundfont manager (AudioHQ) from the original CD after installing the driver, but I can't select it (the soundcard/font) as an output in RC1. I have a SB Audigy 1. There should be a place in windows I can select which soundbank I want. The soundfont manager only loads something into one of two soundbanks, A or B. | | Windows Midi has changed.. how ?? and why ?? I have several USB MIDI keyboards and a tascam US2400 USB control surface.. bith use windows midi built in drivers.. But something has changed recently in vista RC1.. the midi usb keyboards work fine but the US2400 control surface does not.. It shows up in device manger as USB audio device, like it did in XP, but it has an ! over it.. and none of the audio apps recognise it. There are no drivers needed for this it only uses the built in windows midi.. but they dont work.. only for some things.. what would make it for some usb devices but not others ??thanks in advance for all the wisdom :-) |

| | Re: Windows Midi has changed.. how ?? and why ?? This was posted here a week or so ago and the response then was that you need to contact TASCOM support. The '!' by the device in the Device Manager indicates the item needs some type of driver and the source of that will be TASCOM. Vista is not Win XP and Win XP is not Vista. zendik wrote: > I have several USB MIDI keyboards and a tascam US2400 USB control surface.. > bith use windows midi built in drivers.. | | Re: Windows Midi has changed.. how ?? and why ?? It is kinda odd though, that all versions of Windows accepted the Tascam-2400 with it's standard USB Audio Device driver, and now of a sudden it isn't. There wasn't ever need for a driver. Even Mac OS X supports the Tascam-2400 by default. Driverwise it's just a Midi Hub. Don't count on Tascam writing a driver for it, it's a discontinued product. I hope Microsoft offers a solution, this device not working is the only reason I wouldn't use Vista. | | Re: Windows Midi has changed.. how ?? and why ?? I have been up on this computer all night looking for the program like they have on XP Audio manger and guess what there is nothing there been all threw the programs even called the company that made my laptop they cant even find the program that should be on vista yes the program is different from XP very different if you are looking for a program and you think you know where it is well for get it they named it something else and put it in a different location have fun looking for programs another thing to contact mirosoft they are only open during the week days nothing on the weekends they should have 24 hour tech support with this new program that everyone is having so much problems with if anyone has any answers to find a audio manger on this program good luck they should of left some of the programs from XP on the new vista so people would not be having as much problems with getting any of the programs to work "NoiZe" wrote: > It is kinda odd though, that all versions of Windows accepted the Tascam-2400 > with it's standard USB Audio Device driver, and now of a sudden it isn't. > > There wasn't ever need for a driver. > > Even Mac OS X supports the Tascam-2400 by default. > Driverwise it's just a Midi Hub. > > Don't count on Tascam writing a driver for it, it's a discontinued product. > > I hope Microsoft offers a solution, this device not working is the only > reason I wouldn't use Vista. > > "Theo" wrote: > > > This was posted here a week or so ago and the response then > > was that you need to contact TASCOM support. > > > > The '!' by the device in the Device Manager indicates the > > item needs some type of driver and the source of that will > > be TASCOM. > > > > Vista is not Win XP and Win XP is not Vista. > > > > > > zendik wrote: > > > I have several USB MIDI keyboards and a tascam US2400 USB control surface.. > > > bith use windows midi built in drivers..
