Vista - HP Pavilion a1700n- vista 32- No sound, choppy video, and generally running slow.

I'm trying to help my coworker out getting her computer running correctly. From what I gather all these problems started around the same time a few months back.

Computer:
- HP Pavilion a1700n
- specs:
- AMD Athlon 64x2
- 1gb Ram
- 250gb HD
- Nvidia GeForce 6150LE Graphics Card


The symptoms are:
- no sound
- choppy video
- running slow

Already tried:
- updated all drivers
- Rolled back audio drivers
- run AVG free
- system update
- ccleaner
- defragged
- edited startup items
- switched from aero to vista home basic

The only thing I could find was that the OS version check failed in the Reliability & Performance Monitor. She has the OEM Windows Vista Home Premium that came on her HP Pavilion a1700n, and as far as I can tell it should work. Has anyone run into this issue before, or have an idea what to check? This is a work computer so we are trying to stay away from re-installing windows for multiple reasons.

I've worked on the computer a bit this week with a registry cleaner, and looking for issues in the control panel. I also ran through the full HP checklist for sound issues, and came up empty. Any suggestions?
