| | Use of the battery in a laptop? Hi, To keep the battery for a longer life what is the best: 1. using the mainpower : removing the battery and performing regularly a decharging and recharging? 2. using the mainpower : keeping the battery into the PC and performing regularly a decharging and recharging? 3. only working with the battery and of course performing the charging when needed? Li-Ion batteries like the best if approximately half charged. ( it has extra validity for storage ) They do not need regular charging, just when needed. IF possible ( e.g. at Lenovo Thinkpad T400 ), usage custom charge patterns. I have set it to stop charging at 90% of capacity and start charging at 40 % of capacity. Full charging, especially continuous "topping" of battery significantly reduces battery life. It makes sense only if battery running time has higher priority than battery life. Similar life decreasing is for very deep discharging, but in fact it does not happen due control circuits, switching battery off before it goes so far. -- Poutnik The best depends on how the best is defined. |
