Cant read any USB connection memories, HELP!! harddisk and memory cards

hi
i have a laptop from pcspecialist on home ed 64 bit, only 2 days ago it started to stop reading any of my usb memory cards and my external harddisk. Which is pretty anoying. i have 1 Gizmo Crucial 128 mb, 1 PNY 8G and 1 Western digital external harddisk 360gb


i have had problem with one my usb hubs broken as the plastic cover over the four pin is exposed, its being sent to be repair, but before that i need to transfer work off of it .

i ve tried to reformat the memories but it keeps telling me it cant reformat the memory cards. Please help!!
