| Vista Ultimate x64 | USB drive Initialization error I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit version. I have an external USB drive – Maxtor OneTouch 2 that is working on my old XP Pro. Computer. Device Manager does recognize the drive and it also is seen in the BIOS. Disk Management does show my external USB drive as an unknown and not initialized. When I try to initialize the drive I get an error message “Incorrect function”. I already deleted the partition but still get the error message. Does anybody know what to do? GMZ. |

Thank you for your willingness to help. But in order to create a new partition the drive first must be initialized. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: USB drive Initialization error In device manager it is identified exactly for what it is: Maxtor OneTouch 2 USB Device. In Disk Management utility it is identified as Disk # Unknown, 189.92 GB, Not Initialized. On my old system which runs XP Pro. It works just fine. It has a password protection and perhaps that is the problem. Is there any way to erase this disk completely so it would be like it just came from the manufacturer? Thank you guys for your help. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: USB drive Initialization error Found the problem. The drive was password protected. Put it back on the XP machine, disabled the password and whoala, it works on Vista 64. Hope it helps somebody else. |
