nvidia 6600 working but not recognized

This one has me completely stumped. A clean install of RC1. Upon loading,
it lets me set the correct default resolution for my LCD monitor (1280x1024,
at 32-bit color). Everything (except Aero) displays correctly. But my
nvidia 6600 AGP card, which is driving the display, is nowhere recognized.
There is no "Display Adaptor" listed in Device Manager. When I access
"Display Settings," I get "Default monitor on [blank]," although it seems
perfectly happy to let me set even higher resolutions that my monitor
wouldn't support. When I click on "advanced settings," and "adapter
settings"--"properties," I get a "VgaSave", something generic and not useful.
And when I attempt to load the nvidia beta drivers for RC1, it shuts down
with "no drivers compatable with current hardware." And yet the monitor is
clearly running through the nvidia card, and at pretty a pretty decent
resolution.
Thoughts? Thanks

Re: nvidia 6600 working but not recognized

Two ideas:
If you have a 32bit systeem(X86) are you running X86 Vista RC! and did you
try the X86 RC1 drivers? Or if you have a 65bit system are you running the
right combination of OS and drivers?
How much onboard memory does your 6600 card have have?
Apparently since your card and Vista drivers are not recognized the OS is
just running a minimum generic VGA driver.

Re: nvidia 6600 working but not recognized

Thanks. Yes, I installed the x86 (32 bit) (not the 64bit) Vista, and, yes,
I tried to install the nividia RC1 x86 drivers (although I wasn't
particularly surprised they wouldn't install, since nothing in Device Manager
shows that the video card is even being recognized by Vista). Thus, I
assume--with you--that I'm using the default, generic, VGA driver, although
I'm a bit surprised that it allows me to use, with ease, a resolution like
1280x104 at 32-bit depth (albeit, not Aero, which my nvidia 6600 should
support)....

Re: nvidia 6600 working but not recognized

Yes if you have 128MB of onboard memory on your 6600 card it shoud support
Aereo, however, since your card is not being recogniszed for some reason
this is not happening.
Have you checked to be sure your MOBO Bios is up to date?
