I hava a new Dell PC - Studio XPS8000 with Vista Home Premium X64 that I just purchased a few weeks ago. I previously had an HP Desktop and it had an HP External DVD 840e connected to it by usb (I purchased and installed the drive myself. It didn't come with the system)
I must say the Dell PC started right up, I installed and transferred some data and app's from the HP, installed an HP Camera, a TomTom, Microphone and all went well until I came to the DVD Drive. (not a cemmercial for Dell-just the truth)
I am retired and have a lot of free time of which I have spent very much of on the Internet trying to get the Drivers that I need. If I plug it in and start the PC I get a message that it's not recognized. The system looks for drivers and can't find any and it shows up as an unknown device in Device Manager. Now get this, if I unplug the power to it and then plug it back in it is recognized and functions perfectly until I reboot. I could keep plugging it in but that's getting old real fast. HP Supplied a Nero OEM 6.x Software to install it into the HP PC but it won't work in Vista. I've been to many forums (and HP was useless) and see many people having a problem the same as this.
I don't know how much information I need to post, but for now I'll just post and get started.
Any and all HELP is greatly appreciated.
