Vista Display issues

Hi,

Windows Vista Ultimate (Final release - MSDN)

Windows vista set to 800x600 resolution works fine. However, when i try
setting the same to 1024x768 resolution my screen stretches vertically, and
i cannot see start menu/taskbar?

Any help will be appreciated.

I have a latest Acer Travelmate 4052NLCI Laptop with 40GB HDD, and 768MB RAM

Thanks,and Regards,
Praveen

Perhaps a video adapter driver issue, and drivers for Vista may not be
available until after the official release.

Check with the video chip or card manufacturer's WEBsite, for possible
updates.

Re: Vista Display issues

It would be easier to help you if we knew:
1. What is the native resolution of your Laptop screen.
2, What your laptops video card/chip is and how much on board memory it has.
3. If you have run Winupdate with your RTM release since I understand that
there are 11,000 drivers available with it in addition to the 19,000 that
are contained in the acutal RTM release.
4. Prior to upgrading to VISTA Ultimate RTM did you have any problem running
1024x768 on your laptop and if not what OS was it running?

Re: Vista Display issues

Thanks for replying...

Q1: native resolution supported by my Laptop (Acer Travelmate 4052NLCI) is
1024x786 and 800x600
Q2: Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller (Microsoft Corporation -
XDDM) and 64MB Shared Memory
Q3: I had run Windows Update, and i have downloaded, and installed latest
INTEL driver for the video card without any luck.
Q4: Before VISTA, i had Windows XP Professional and it was running fine
under 1024x768 resolution.

If you require any more details, please let me know the same

Re: Vista Display issues

A fixed pixel display only has one native resolution just like an electric
light sign on the freeway. If you select a resolution other than the native
resolution the graphics card just scales the image of to fit the native
resolution by adding pixels(up) or deleting pixels (down scaling).
From your problem description it appears that your native resolution is
800x600 and that the MS supplied WDDM drivers in Vista for your card were or
still are doing a poor job of downscaling the 1024x768 image.
After you downloaded latest Vista drivers from the Intel drivers and you go
into device manager does it show the Intel drivers instead of the MS WDDM
drivers. If not although they are installed it appears that Vista has not
started using them.

Re: Vista Display issues

Thanks for replying JW.

BTW, my laptop is just 8 months old

Acer TravelMate 4052NLCi
Intel Pentium M 726 processor (1.6GHz, 400MHz FSB, 2MB L2 Cache)
15" XGA TFT LCD
40GB HDD
DVD/CD-RW combo
768MB DDR
802.11 b/g wireless LAN

Looking @ the configuration i guess that vista should support atleast
1024x768 resolution.

Further, the driver installed i guess its windows vista driver, and not
intel. I was not able to find any latest INTEL video drivers for Vista.

However, the driver which vista is installed for my Laptop TFT/LCD is
"Digital Flat Panel (1024x768 60Hz)"

Praveen

Re: Vista Display issues

Are you sure this is the model no. of your laptop and not your battery?
Doing a search on Google finds only batteries.
Acer also does not list this model (Acer TravelMate 4052NLCi).

Re: Vista Display issues

Hopefully Intel will soon release their own drives for your chipset for
Vista. I would try WinUpdate under Vista and check the Intel Website again
this Thursday the 30th since the business versions of Vista are being
released on that date and I expect a lot of drivers suddenly to be made
available on Vendor WebSites.
