DirectX 10 question

I am looking into a new computer now, and I've found a monster over at
futureshop and I'm loking at buying it, but I'm interested, first of all, in
finding out if I should be waiting until vista comes out... One thing I have
a question about is graphics cards. People are telling me that graphics cards
will not be able to support directx 10 untl vista comes out, yet I see all
these vista premium ready computers, and all these computers RUNNINg Aero. I
thought that Aero required DirectX 10 to run... I'm all confused now so, I am
wondering, what are the details on this that I'm not getting? Would this card
: Integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE be able to run DirectX10? would it limit
the vista capabilities on my computer? thanks in advance.

Re: DirectX 10 question

The 6150LE is a DirectX 9 GPU and it will support Aero, but don't expect to
play games on it at any respectable framerate, that's a low-end DX9 card.
You may want to wait untill Vista before you buy because that is when OEM's
will start using real video cards and not trimmed down garbage.

One rule of thumb for me when it comes to graphics, stay away from onboard,
no matter how "good" they claim it to be.

Re: DirectX 10 question

So, currently, no graphics card will support DirectX10?

If there are some out there, which ones would you recommend for having an
EXCELLENT computer for hte next 4-5 years? I can always get future shop to
add that card.

Re: DirectX 10 question

The only current DirectX 10 cards on the market are the NVIDIA Geforce 8800
series of cards. They are expensive, but they would definately be the first
step to an awesome system for years to come. Only problem is that NVIDIA
has yet to release Vista drivers for them, but that should happen within the
next week or two.
