Vista compatible tuner and possibly HD

I am preparing to upgrade my XP MCE box to Vista. I want to replace my
tuner card and can't find anything that shows what cards are compatible.
Also, if I am changing tuners, are there decent HD tuner cards that allow
access to an HD Cable box?

Any help or advice would be greately appreciated.

RE: Vista compatible tuner and possibly HD

Stay away from the ATI tuners. I've got a TV Wonder 650 that has never
worked adequately. Look toward the Mfrs that specialize... Hauppage is a
good TV card vendor.

Re: Vista compatible tuner and possibly HD

There are several HD tuner cards and USB HD tuner adapters that accept
coax cable inputs, however, several HD cable channels are scrambled
(my cable provider scrambles everything except re-broadcasts of over
the air channels and a few very basic cable channels). What kind of
HD output does your HD cable box have? Mine has component outputs,
and I have not found any pc tuner card/video capture card that accepts
HD component video inputs. Also, I believe that future cable boxes will
have HDMI outputs, and again I have found no cards with HDMI
inputs.

Go to Dvico website, they have nice tv tuners they are little bit expensive,
but they work like charm.

Re: Vista compatible tuner and possibly HD

Their products have only coax and AV inputs.
No HD component or HDMI inputs.

Re: Vista compatible tuner and possibly HD

There are some video capture cards that will capture component but only at
480i resolution and they require dual core high speed CPUs to do it in
software.
The bandwidth required to capture decoded 720p or 1080i HD resolution video
approaches 2Gb/sec or 15GB per minute and you would need a card that would
encode the input using hardware into compressed MPEG2 or other compressed
format in real time in order to be able the handle the input into the PC
itself.
