Dlink 624 & utorrent bittorrent slow downloads, no port open help!

So, i have a d-link 624c router with verizon fios. Im connected to the net
and stuff, but my downloads are like, wicked slow. Before vista, id download
at 100-600kbps. Now im lucky if i get 5-10kbps.

Im using Utorrent on port 32459. Yet i get the littel icon under neithe
saying im not fully conencted and that port 32459 is not forwarded. I
followed all the directions and everything to open the port up, but i still
get the same error saying:

"A firewall/router is limiting your network traffic. You need to open up a
port so others cna connect to you"

So whats goign on. I went into my dlink and i opened all the ports for it i
can but utorrent and bittorretn still goig slow. Can anyone help or know what
to do?

thanks

Re: Dlink 624 & utorrent bittorrent slow downloads, no port open help!

Right.

Looks like you've got one of 2 firewalls incorrectly configured.

a: your dlink firewall

b: your windows firewall (either built in or added through software like
zone alarm)

I'm going to assume that your router(dlink) firewall is correctly set up and
give you instructions on how to open port 32459 on your windows firewall
(again, assuming your not using any Third Party firewall software.

First you need to open the control panel (Start -> Control Panel)
When that opens click on Security. This will change the control panel to
show security related controls. One of the options near the top of the
security controls is Windows Firewall with 2 links attached to it, 1: Turn
windows firewall on or off, and 2: Allow a program through windows firewall.
This is what you want to open (2).

This will bring up a new window with Windows Firewall Settings, showing a
large list of programs and services. Along the bottom there are 2 groups of
buttons, a 4 button group (add program, add port, properties and delete) and
a 3 button group (ok, cancel and apply)

Since you know what port you want to open click "add port"

in the add port window Give teh port a descriptive name such as "Utorrent
Port" and in the port box enter the port number you have assigned to the
program "32459"
ensure the protocol TCP is selected and click OK the add port screen should
dissappear and you should be back to the Windows Firewall Settings screen.
Click OK at the bottom again.

That should do it, you should now have TCP Port 32459 open for data.

Best of luck.
