Dual ATI display adapters - one wont work (Radeon 7200)

I have an HP xw8200 workstation, just installed Vista Enterprise edition.
My primary display adapter is an ATI x1900, which is powering two monitors,
works great.
I have a second ATI adapter, a Radeon 7200, that will not enable in the
device manager if the primary x1900 card is enabled. The device manager says
that the 7200 is using am XDDM driver.
I have installed the most recent Catalyst drivers from ATI, uninstalled and
re-detected the cards, still didnt work.
The only thing that DID work is disabling the primary x1900 card, then the
7200 was able to turn on and work properly.

Is the 7200 not compatible with the WDDM driver that the x1900 is using? I
read some info that Vista requires all display adapters to use the same
display driver, or the offending card will be disabled, which is what I
suspect is happening here.

Thanks!

If there are no Vista drivers at the ATI web site, then it's probably not
supported for WDDM use.

Re: Dual ATI display adapters - one wont work (Radeon 7200)

I cant tell... I dont see any thing specific about it. My understanding is
that ATI publishes a unified driver package (Catalyst) and it applies to many
cards. I couldnt find any note about 7200/Vista or WDDM compatibility.

Followup note - when I did get the 7200 to enable (by turning off the x1900
card) I dont know if it was using the XDDM driver or a WDDM driver. Probably
the XDDM driver.

Re: Dual ATI display adapters - one wont work (Radeon 7200)

I wonder... could you force both adapters to use an older driver, like the
xddm? and enable both?

has ANYONE been able to get multiple adapters to work at all??? I see a lot
of questions about it.

Re: Dual ATI display adapters - one wont work (Radeon 7200)

Since only ATI cards 9550 and later support DX9 I am certainly not surprised
that you are unale to find WDDM drivers for your old 7200 card.

Re: Dual ATI display adapters - one wont work (Radeon 7200)

If the ATI web site doesn't say anything about Vista drivers for your old
card, I would suppose that's your answer right there. No drivers - no
support - no multi monitor with that card.
