Xbox 360 Controller on any Vista PC?

Hi everyone.
I watched Bill Gates keynote on CES 2007 and I heard that I can go to the
shop, buy any XBox 360 USB-controller , plug it into my Vista-powered PC and
use it in any games.
Is that true? No additional software requered? Have anyone tried it?

I am using one now with Flight Simulator X. It works real nice I might add.

Yes, Vista supports the XBox 360 controller and has the drivers built
in. It works nice in some games, and adds a lot to emulation, if you do
any of that!

I'm not a gamer, but just a quick question.
What is "emulation"?

I saw a Microsoft demo of a map program in which the presenter used an xbox
360 controller to zoom in on Las Vegas and "drive" through the city at near
street level.

Emulation is running a program that simulates one system on another.
For example: VICE can run Commodore programs on a PC.
There's an emulator that lets you run Playstation games on a PC as well.
I haven't seen an Xbox or 360 emulator for the PC and I don't know if it's
even feasible but it's possible in theory if you don't need it to run as fast as
a real one.

Re: Xbox 360 Controller on any Vista PC?

Hi everyone! When I got my XBox 360 USB controller connected to my PC, the
driver installation fails. Vista can't find any drivers, neither on CD nor
windows update-service...

I seem to be having the same problem with my controllers as well. Would
it make a difference using the wireless controller with the play and charge
kit as opposed to the wired one only? Thanks in advance.

Re: Xbox 360 Controller on any Vista PC?

It does make a difference, the play and charge kit only provides power to the
controller, the communication is still wireless. MS sells a usb adaptor
that'll allow you to use your wireless controller on your windows machine for
about $20US.

Speaking of which, I just bought said adaptor today, installed all the
drivers on my 64bit Vista Ultimate machine and windows says everything is
working properly, only the "ring of light" on the controller never stops
flashing and it won't create the relationship between the controller and the
PC needed to use it.

Anyone out there have any ideas?
