| | RE: Vista runs really slow Yes, I have essentially the same issue. At first I thought it was because I was just using onboard video, but I have since installed a faster card, which helped a bit... but overall system performance is sluggish. I assume it's a driver issue... but any feedback would be appreciated. Running: Compaq dc7100 P4 3.2 GHz 1 GB PC3200 RAM Nvidia Quadro NVS 285 PCI-X 60 GB SATA drive Thanks Jason "KevinRB" wrote: > I have a P4 3.0 GHZ processor with a gig of ram and most of the time vista > runs like crap, anyone else have same problem or know how to fix it? > > |

| | Re: Vista runs really slow might check with Task Manager to see if some programis chewing up the cpu. indexing service is known to slow things down and even heat up processors. mikeyhsd@sport.rr.com "KevinRB" <kevin_brake@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:03AE1AF9-D204-4ABE-973C-7D612C0B88FE@microsoft.com... | | Re: Vista runs really slow I only have a Athlon 2800+ with 1.5 gig ram and I'm surprised it runs so well. Yes it's not quite as zippy as XP but it's not far off either. I've heard disabling UAC can help speed it up. | | Re: Vista runs really slow Hey Guys, What is UAC??? Also, I found that turning off the sidebar helped speed things up for me... but still not as zippy as XP. Thanks Op "Peter M" wrote: > I only have a Athlon 2800+ with 1.5 gig ram and I'm surprised it runs so > well. Yes it's not quite as zippy as XP but it's not far off either. | | Re: Vista runs really slow Turn off Aero Glass and watch it fly. Look under personalize display and whatnot in the Control Panel, it will appear like a theme. As soon as I did that, my laptop and desktop both ran better, less hot, and I think my battery is lasting a lot longer... | | RE: Vista runs really slow I have a 2.8 dual core Pentium D, and I have also noticed that Vista runs sluggish for me. I went into task manager to look to see if it was a memory issue, or if the processor was being maxed out, but neither seems to be the case. The memory was only being use by about half of the available and the processor shows at 15 percent. the only thing that I noticed that it different from when I am running XP on this machine is that my hard drive never seems to stop being used. I can't tell what is going on by the task information, but something sure is using the living piss out of the hard drive. I didn't notice this concern though until after I had installed the EZ Anti Virus that was free to users of Vista. Has anyone else noticed this concern, and does anyone thing that it could be the anti virus at fault instead of Vista itself? | | RE: Vista runs really slow I have a 2.8 Pentium D with 2 gig of memory and my system also runs slow. I noticed it more after installing the free ez anti virus. It doesn't seem to be a processor or memory issue. I have noticed that my hard drive light now never seems to be at rest. Something is always using the hard drive in Vista, but I can not figure out what. It may be the anti virus, but I have no way to tell for sure.
