"Battery not detected" says Vista, I don't agree

Hi

When I installed Vista Business I didn't have a battery on my laptop since I
had just ordered a new one. When I got the battery I inserted it to the
laptop and it works perfectly but it is not detected by Windows.

Vista says: "No battery is detected" and it doesn't matter if the power
cable is plugged in or not.

Any ideas on how to detect the battery? (Removing and inserting the battery
doesn't make a difference).

Re: "Battery not detected" says Vista, I don't agree

Some laptops have a cold reset that is different to just powering off
and turning back on.

Also some BIOS's have a calibration procedure for the battery to give
the anticipated running time -- check your manuals, paper or on-line.

You could ask over in the Laptop Forum over on Compuserve:

You don't have to be a memeber any more; just get a logon name and
password when you arrive.

Sorry, it didn't help. Bios calibration works fine but it has no effect on
Vista.

Re: "Battery not detected" says Vista, I don't agree

Then it sounds as if you need VISTA compatible utility files from the
laptop manufacturer. In general it is a mistake to update the OS on a
laptop until the new one has been available for a good period of time
and you know that all the files you need are there.

I suggest you check in the COmpuserve forum I told you about but give
them the make and model of laptop, what OS it came with, what version
of VISTA you have now and what country the laptop was purchased in.
