| | Microsoft Brand Media Center Remote and IR Receiver Vista Issues I have been experiencing problems with the Media Center Remote and IR Receiver in Vista Home Premium Edition. I have tried various Power Setting configurations and no matter what it seems that the IR Receiver is way too sensative in Vista Home Premium Edition... (It worked just fine for me before in XP MCE 2005 Update 2!) I have the actual Microsoft Remote and IR Receiver as well as the standard OEM Remote and Receiver that is included with Tuner Cards like the Hauppauge. It doesn't seem to matter which receiver or remote. Has anyone else had this issue? After doing much research I learned that many people have had issues because of LCD and Plasma Television displays emitting light that can interfere with the Receiver (You can test this by pointing the Receiver at the TV and notice that the indicator LED either flashes like crazy or goes solid). I read that people have resorted to putting the unit in a box with a small opening as well as storing it in a dark area behind the LCD/Plasma television and removing any reflective objects from the room that may reflect the light from the display effectively to the receiver. So far the only fix I have found is trying to surround the IR Receiver with other components so it is sort've shrouded and closed so it is somewhere dark and it seems to work. It is not to receiving interferance. My feeling is perhaps the Vista driver has some sort of different way of processing the signal it receives from the IR Receiver when reading the remote (maybe making it more sensative or something). Usually what happens is the Computer acts as if I am holding down the button even though it is only pressed momentarily. So Volume Up goes all the way up, same with Volume Down. Directional Keys seem as if they are being held down and repeat the direction over and over. It only seems to be happening with Keys that normally have a repetitive behavior when you hold them down (for example the info button doesn't exibit this behaviour, nor does the channel up and down button)... the only problem is I AM NOT HOLDING IT DOWN... just pushing it one time. Lastly I have also tried changing batteries and other things but that doesn't seem to help only shrouding the IR Receiver... I don't find this to be an acceptible fix. Does anyone know when Philips is supposed to release their new RF version of the Media Center Remote? Maybe that will work better. |
