| | Sound card problem So I installed Windows Vista Buisness on my dell inspiron 9300 laptop because it is what my school offered through MSDNAA. I purchased the Buisness to Ultimate Upgrade and upgraded the install of Windows. Upon instalation, i lost the ability to get sound out of my headphone jack! I cant figure out why, i tried reinstalling the driviers for the sound card (SigmaTell C-Major) and am still having the problem. I can still get sound of my on board speakers fine, but if i plug in headphones or outside speakers, I lose it all. I was able to get sound out of the headphone jack before i upgraded to ultimate, so this is an issue cause either by upgrading or by ultimate itslef. Has any one else had this problem? Does any one know how to fix it? |

Most people who are looking at your reply are NOT using Vista Forums, they are using Microsoft's groups on the MS server or one of those groups that have been propagated to Usenent servers around the world. | Vista Business x64 | Re: Sound card problem Did you reinstall the drivers through Windows Update, or from a recent download from Dell's website? I'd say always go to the manufacturer's support site for the newest driver versions. Typically, onboard sound will also have it's own control panel or UI that may control what happens when a front audio device is inserted. I know this is true of most new Realtek audio devices, not sure about SigmaTel. To Mr_cheeks: Same scenario... wen you upgraded to Vista, you may have lost the audio device manufacturer's own control panel or utility for managing jacks. See if there is anything newer on the computer manufacturer's support site. |

I am using Windows Vista Ultimate (just updated from Windows XP.) I have external speakers instead of using the speakers that are on the laptop. Just regular 2.1 Speakers that plug into the green headphone jack. When I was using XP everything was fine...I updated and now only the front speakers of the laptop work and when I plug in the external speakers that don't work at all...I plugged up some headphones that go to my Zune and they didn't work either. |
