Upgrading Hardware

I installed Vista with the ATI 9100 onboard graphics which installed fine but
with no Aero as expected but i installed an ATI 9800 pro and new Drivers and
am still stuck with the Vista Basic theme.

How do i upgrade the theme to display Aero??

Vista would not install with the ATI 9800 pro it forced the 'OUT OF RANGE'
error

I hope i can sort this as £300 for windows was a gamble as i could have
upgraded my hardware.

Re: Upgrading Hardware

Have you gone to Control Panel -> Personalisation -> Window Colour and
Appearance and made sure Aero is the selected choice?

Re: Upgrading Hardware

The Aero option is not there - Looking at my device manager the new driver
from ATI seems to be not working properly as windows has queried the card and
the chess game only works in 2d mode??

So does Vista disable the Aero effect if there are problems with the GFX
hardware??

Also has MSoft got a drivers page for VISTA I need an ATI driver that works.

Very Fed up at the moment - If anyone can help it would be much appreciated

Re: Upgrading Hardware

Have you disabled the onboard graphics chip in your BIOS and set the vid
card as your main display device?.

Have you set the the shared memory for the onboard grapics chip to the
lowest amount possible in the BIOS, so it is freed up to be used by the
system?.

Re: Upgrading Hardware

Hi Thanks

Yes I had to do all this to fit the GFX card anyway. - Im shelving my VISTA
and going back to XP for now as i cannot get my internet connected, the
supplied hardware from my ISP does not support VISTA yet so that has put the
final nail in the coffin for me with VISTA for the moment. (

It appears that it going to be a long time before Hardware manufacturers
catch up with vista drivers which is a shame as Microsoft have released an
impressive OS.

Thanks for your help!!
