I've just installed the public beta release onto my D drive, keeping XP on
my C drive. All seemed to install fine. But Vista doesn't recognize that my
desktop computer has a modem. So I'm not able to dial up in order to
activate the beta within the first 14 days. Any ideas on how I can get Vista
to know that my computer has an internal dialup modem?

Check with the modem manufacturer about Vista support.
Try Windows XP drivers from the modem manufacturers website.

Activate by phone if possible.
