Vista does not recognise UDF (data) DVD's on external DVD drives.

I have a laptop with both internal DVD drive and an external LaCie DVD±RW
Design by F.A. Porsche drive connected through USB 2.0.

Windows XP will recognise a UDF formatted (data) DVD in the external drive.
Mac OS will recognise a UDF formatted (data) DVD in the external drive.
Windows Vista will NOT recognise a UDF formatted (data) DVD in the external
drive.

All OS/s recognise the UDF DVD when placed in the internal DVD drive.
All OS/s recognise a non-UDF DVD (e.g. a movie) in the external drive.

So Windows Vista cannot recognise UDF DVD's on an external drive connected
through USB 2.0. It just spins up and down and up and down ad infinitum.
Clicking the eject button gives the message "please insert DVD,.. etc"

I hate having to do regression testing on software after 5 million people
reportedly tested it. How can I be the first one to notice something so
common?

I assume the drive recognises DVDs otherwise, for instance movie DVDs. (I have a problem where my DVD writer doesnt recognise DVDs at all but does recognise CDs, etc... )

I'll email you a set of drivers if you can provide me with your email address(I tried attaching it here but the upload failed!). This software has helped lots(I mean lots!!!) of people. Install it and then try using the UDF format DVDs.

Something I should have asked earlier: are you running a 64-bit version of Vista?
