Full video drivers and support software are thin on the ground presently..
we are all having to wait for something meaningful, regardless of
manufacturer.. keeping checking out the ATI website..

Re: ati all-in-wonder 9800 pro tuner driver missing

Not currently since the software encoder required for AIW under Vista would
have to come from ATI like the ones they developed for MCE2004 and MCE2005
did. One possibility is trying to install the ATI XP MMI application in XP
compatibility mode and see if it will work, however, I have seen no reports
of this working.
It was rumored last fall that ATI will release tunere drivers for their more
recent AIW cards for VISTA but no time frame was given.

Re: ati all-in-wonder 9800 pro tuner driver missing

It's all part of the scheme to force end users to upgrade perfectly good
hardware. I'm willing to bet you will find ATI's official position is
something along the lines of "since it is an old product we have no plans to
implement updated drivers for it".

Translation: "We're deeply in bed with Microsoft and want you to fork over
more money for new hardware. Microsoft will even encourage you to buy a new
computer because then they get to ream you for a new operating system, even
though you own the rights to reuse the one you bought".

Re: ati all-in-wonder 9800 pro tuner driver missing

Starting with the release of MCE2005 and continuing with VISTA which was the
first to support multiple tuner cards MS said that cards using Software
MPEG2 encoders instead of Hardware Encoders could no longer qualify for the
Designed for MCE Logo program. The reason for this is that even when ATI
provided software encoding for their AIW cards in MCE2004 they reaquired
that only dual CPU or HT cards be used in order to keep the CPU utilization
below 50% when in use with a single tuner.
Since ATI still sells AIW cards which only use ATI's own TV application
program(MMI) with the XP OS they can't use the excuse that the AIW cards for
which they VISTA graphic drivers are obsolete.
Read the following thread for some possible insight into ATI plans.

Re: ati all-in-wonder 9800 pro tuner driver missing

I'll save you the trouble - I already turned in a "support ticket" on this
same issue on an All-In-Wonder card.
In short, they have no plans to support their "old" TV Tuners in Vista

("old" btw, means -any- card bought before Vista was released....)

Re: ati all-in-wonder 9800 pro tuner driver missing

SLINGBOX...thats the answer. I now can dispense with the tuner in my
computer and dont have to rely on any drivers..
