| | Shared Printer XP to Vista I am running Vista Enterprise in a small workgroup along with XP machines. Everything works great with file sharing both ways. However, I cannot install the LaserJet 1320 shared on the XP machine on my Vista machine. I go to Printers in Control Panel and click on Add Printer. I then click Add a network ... printer and Vista finds the printer on the XP machine. I click Next and after a few seconds I get a dialog box stating "The server for the 'hp LaserJet 1320 PCL 6' printer does not have the correct printer driver installed." I click OK and get another dialog box entitled "File needed: Printer Driver INF for the hp LaserJet 1320 PCL 6". I have tried to find this INF in C:\Windows\inf and several other places. Nothing has worked. HP says that the driver for this printer is built into Windows Vista and there is not one available on their site. In previous installs of Vista, I have had this same printer running fine when attached to the Vista machine, so I know the drivers are somewhere. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. |

| | RE: Shared Printer XP to Vista THANKS for your post. My problem was getting the Vista Machine to see the printers at all.....your post provided the clue that got me fixed......." I go > to Printers in Control Panel and click on Add Printer. I then click Add a > network ... printer and Vista finds the printer on the XP machine. " is what did the trick for me. No one told me I had to 'install the printer' on the vista machine. How enlightening. My XP machines just 'found it'. Now on to my next problem....getting vista machine to "see" shared files on network pc's. I am sure there is some oversight on my part there as well.....Chuck "newpath" wrote: > I am running Vista Enterprise in a small workgroup along with XP machines. > Everything works great with file sharing both ways.
