Brother MFC-6800 Driver

I'ver tried getting my printer to work with Vista for an hour. Any drivers
for the brother MFC-6800 yet? Being able to print is critical to my wife
accepting this new OS. Thanks!

Re: Brother MFC-6800 Driver

I have the same problem. MFC-6800 that worked fine with XP pro doesn't work with Vista x64. I am using USB connection and Microsoft built in drivers. Scanner works. Printer doesn't. If I use "Print directly to the printer" option in Advanced tab of the printer property dialog I am getting the following error:

"Test page failed to print. Would you like to view the print troubleshooterfor assistance? Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000057)."

If I use "Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster" option in Advanced tab, a printer icon appears in the tool tray, printer starts making some noise but nothing is printed.

Please, help!

Thank you,

Re: Brother MFC-6800 Driver

Uninstall all 6800 drivers. Reboot. Go to the Install.exe file for the 6800
and under Properties, choose the Compatibility tab. Check XP SP2 compatible
box. Now try reinstalling the drivers.

Re: Brother MFC-6800 Driver

John, thank you for the reply! What kind of 6800 drivers do you suggest to try: XP or XP x64?

Re: Brother MFC-6800 Driver

Don't use 32-bit drivers with a 64-bit OS. Use only 64-bit drivers.

Re: Brother MFC-6800 Driver

If you're running Vista 32 bit then try the 32 bit XP drivers. If you're
running Vista 64 bit, the 64 bit XP drivers.

Re: Brother MFC-6800 Driver

I downloaded MFC-6800 drivers for Windows XP x64 from Brother's web site. There is no Install.exe there - just collection of .inf, compressed .dl_ and some other files. When I try to install the driver using Windows "Have a disk" routine I am getting:

"Unable to install Brother MFC68000 USB, Type 3 - User Mode, x64 driver. Operation could not be completed (error 0x80360059)."

Re: Brother MFC-6800 Driver

After my struggle and hair loss with the the bits of help from you all I finally have my 6800 scanning and Yes printing on Vista Ultimate x64.

This is what I did.
1:Shut off or disconnect the printer.
2:As above mentioned delete your Brother printer and remove all current drivers. REMEMBER to Reboot before continuing. Windows hates when you don't REBOOT a million times.
3ownload from Brother the Printer drivers for Windows XP x64
Brother: MFC-6800: Downloads: Drivers: United States
4:Save the download in a new folder and run to decompress it inside this folder.
5:Go to add printers and Add a local printer
6: I am using a USB connection so I chose the USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB)
7: Choose Have disk
8:Browse to the folder you saved the files in and open the US-ENG folder
9:You want to choose the file called "br64add.inf" then click Open
10:Ignore the windows This Driver is not digitally signed. Windows always seems to ignore us.
11:Hit Next
12: Type a printer name showed me a "Brother DCP-1000" As far as I can tell the printer driver is a generic for a number of models. I just changed the name to Brother MFC-6800
13: Hit Next, Next and then cancel the Test page.
14:Reconnect your printer and power up

Now here I had fun figuring this out. Windows is going to find new hardware and install the Brother Printer. Let it do its thing. Then in Control Panel / Printers just delete this new printer and set the one you installed manually. Send a test page and mine began working like it was supposed to.

Re: Brother MFC-6800 Driver

Thank you for the reply!

You suggest to select br64add.inf in the step 9. When I browse to US-ENG I see only the following :

brimyl4.inf brmfyl4.inf brpoyl4.inf brpryl4.inf

I tried all of them and each time I am getting error: "Printer driver was not installed. Operation coluld not be completed (error 0x80360059)."

Please, advice!
