| Guest | Re: Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit? 64bit? You would want to run the upgrade advisor or go to the software makers website for compatibility issues. 3DStudio & Visual Studio both should work, though (I know that VS does). 64Bit would support the 4GB and up RAM configuration. You could use either 32Bit or 64Bit OS with that CPU. -- Dustin Harper dharper@vistarip.com http://www.vistarip.com -- "Arf_" <Arf_@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:70A35791-14C6-41B2-A0C5-19EFD731C04D@microsoft.com... > Hi ladies Gents. > At the moment Im running a P4 2.66Ghz(clocked to 2.9), 1.5GB ram, 256 > (x800 > pro) GPU with Raid on Windows XP pro. I don't want to upgrade this PC as im sticking to XP but I hope to build a new PC with a intel core 2 due (quad core) 3/4 gig ram and with an 8800GTX card. Now....... Im really confused about this 32 bit and 64bit.... what would I need for this new PC ? Is there even a 64 bit of the OS out and will my main programs I use such as 3d stuido max, visual studio .net 2003 be compatible? cheers |

| Guest | Re: Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit? 64bit? Be careful though. It's hard enough to get drivers for 32-bit Vista. 64-bit is even worse. (Not related to your apps, but obviously you need your hardware to work too). Yes, before you purchase anything for x64 Vista make sure you double-chekc with the vendor for an x64 compatible driver. They don't necessarily need to be x64 Vista, as some x64 2003 drivers work just fine, as long as they're WHQL. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ |

Thanks for the ino Dustin Harper, Puppy Breath and Steve Jain. Got some very useful info. I will double check. Something I forgot to mention I am a hard core gamer and will be using DX10 both for developemnt as well as playing crysis, Unreal III and so on, I should be ok with drivers? Again cheers chaps. |
