| | cd/dvd device not found I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6227 with Vista Home Premium preinstalled. The cd/dvd device worked fine until recently. Suggested solutions here and on the internet assume XP is the current operating system or XP was upgraded to Vista Beta2 or Vista. I need a solution for an OEM Vista operating system. |

| | Re: cd/dvd device not found/Try this. Hi Jim-- This solution will probably work and OEM or not will not be a factor for this issue. It's probably about filter values. The most common reason a DVD drive is not detected in XP or Vista is detailed in this MSKB: (It applies to Vista RTM despite MSFT's overlooking that it needs to update the title over a month after public RTM)--and it is far and away the most common reason for your symptom. CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive appears to be missing after you install Windows XP or Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;320553 Look for any upper or lower filter values in the rregistry and delete them at the specified subkey values if they exist. These are much rarer possibilities: CD-R drive or CD-RW drive is not recognized as a recordable device http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/316529/ Cannot copy files to the CD-R/CD-RW drive http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;326982 CD-ROM Drive May Not Be Able to Read a UDF-Formatted Disc in Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;321640 Good luck, CH "Jim Vary" <Jim Vary@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:898395BA-1992-47D7-AE46-E4A5587FC284@microsoft.com... >I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6227 with Vista Home Premium > preinstalled. | | Re: cd/dvd device not found/Try this. I have two new Dell Dimension 9200s and both of them have developed this problem. Fix was - power down - open case - disconnect cables from affected DVD - reconnect cables - power up - hit F2 to enter BIOS set up - make sure DVD is "ON" in BIOS. If not turn ON. Hope this help you.
