| | Problems getting Xbox 360 controller working with vista I have the 32 bit version of Vista Ultimate. When I try to install the Microsoft Common Controller app (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...dRjD6hfw%3d%3d) I get the following two errors: --------------------------- Setup Error --------------------------- installation did not complete. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- I installed the Xbox 360 Accessories Software, but I still get the "Windows needs to install driver software for your Unknown Device" message- and I'm unable to find drivers either on my system or the net, other than a link to where the accessories software can be found (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/ga...indows%20Vista) Any thoughts? I doubt I'm really resource constrained here- I have 3070 mb of RAM and 50 gigs of hard drive space available. |

| | RE: Problems getting Xbox 360 controller working with vista Sorry folks- I'm missing error text. My first error message was: --------------------------- Setup Error --------------------------- Not enough storage is available to process this command. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- "Patrick" wrote: > I have the 32 bit version of Vista Ultimate. > > When I try to install the Microsoft Common Controller app > > (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...dRjD6hfw%3d%3d) > > I get the following two errors: > > --------------------------- > Setup Error > --------------------------- > installation did not complete. > --------------------------- > OK > --------------------------- > > I installed the Xbox 360 Accessories Software, but I still get the "Windows > needs to install driver software for your Unknown Device" message- and I'm > unable to find drivers either on my system or the net, other than a link to > where the accessories software can be found > (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/ga...indows%20Vista) > > > Any thoughts? | | Re: Problems getting Xbox 360 controller working with vista Your problem is that its the wrong driver! Try going through http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/gaming/download.mspx and you should get the correct driver instead. Its bizarre though, that doing a straight search for the vista version of the driver wont find it! Crimliar |

| | Re: Problems getting Xbox 360 controller working with vista Thanks for the suggestion, Crimliar, Unfortunately I did try the application you're referring to (although the url you sent isn't resolving). I have the Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories status application, but when I run it and connect the controller, the connections app doesn't register any controllers and shortly thereafter I'm prompted to install the driver (either by finding it on the internet or installing the drivers locally, neither of which works). | | Re: Problems getting Xbox 360 controller working with vista I've been trying to speak with Microsoft technical support on this issue. I have to say, it's just layers and layers of finger pointing. The vista people say it's an xbox issue and the xbox people say it's a vista issue. I did finally get transferred to the folks in the Xbox hardware support group and I had a phone rep inform me that THERE IS CURRENTLY NO VISTA SUPPORT FOR THE XBOX 360 CONTROLLER. I always get confused when tech support tells you something that seems obviously impossible, given the fact that there's a choice to install the Microsoft Xbox 360 Accessories Software specifically for the 32 bit english version of Vista, but I guess there are some communication problems. So is anyone successfully able to get the controller to work under the 32 bit version of Vista ultimate, or are the phone reps actually telling the truth? I didn't even have one asking me about driver locations or anything I'd expect...
