Base score 5?

I was just wondering if anyone has a base score 5. If so, can you describe
your system. This is my system of base score 2.7 :

CPU: Intel Celeron 2.00 GHz 2.7 subscore
Memory: 1 GB 3.5 subscore
Graphics: RADEON 9600 series 3.8 subscore
Gaming graphics: 383MB 3.3 subscore
Primary hard disk: 75GB total 5.3 subscore

I plan on upgrading CPU to 3.00GHz and add 1GB of memory. I like playing
games like BF2142 and Call of Duty 2. Games works fine, but when running
regular programs Vista is sluggish compared to XP. I have disabled all
visual effects, yet find my self waiting alot. I do have all my securities
enabled. Antivirus, spyware, etc. so i know im not being attacked. I
want to experience the WOW.

Re: Base score 5?

CPU: Athlon XP 4400+ Dual Core 5.3
Memory: 2 Gig OCZ Dual Channel PC 400 5.2
Graphics: Dual BFG 7900 GT's in SLI Mode 5.4
Gaming graphics: 512mb. 5.2
Hard Drives 4 WD 250 Gig in Raid ) Arrays 5.7

Even with my scores I seem to wait a lot as well. Wait for folders to open,
Wait for programs to close Etc Etc Etc.
I'm not impressed with Vista at all. I even have problems burning disks in
Vista but not with XP. Media center crashes all the time. Games run like
crap if they do run at all.

My XP Pro partition runs perfect - No waiting for anything.
I feel that I wasted my money on an incomplete operating system. Most of my
friends and relatives are not impressed with Vista either.

I know someone will reply to this stating that it is a new system and
problems should be expected but there should not be this many problems with
it. I have updated all drivers to the newest and even some of those just
make things worse.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. I use XP Pro 95% of the time now.
It's proven , It works Right !

Re: Base score 5?

Not quite a 5, but here's what I have:

Processor: 5.3
Memory: 5.9
Graphics: 4.7
Gaming Graphics: 4.2
Primary HD: 5.3

My system is a Dell E521, AMD Dual-Core 2.8 5600+, 2GB ram, 160 GB SATA II,
ATI Radeon X1300 Pro 256mb video card. I'm running Vista Enterprise x64.
Before you look at spending a lot of money upgrading your box, I'd suggest
you do like I did and take a look at Dell's outlet site. This is the 4th
box I've bought from there and I've had great luck with all of them. I
saved over $400 on this box, when compared to the same system's MSRP.

Processor 3.4 Intel Prescott 4.4
Memory 2GB 5.3
Graphics ATI Radon 800XL 5.9
Gaming Graphics 4.9
Primary Hard Disk 5.5

I have no slow down at all. Runs faster than XP with Superfetch.

If you want to get a system of 5 you'll need a dual core system, so just
sticking in a 3Ghz CPU probably won't bring you up that high.

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz 5.3
Memory (RAM) 2.00 GB 5.5
Graphics Radeon X1900 Series 5.9
Gaming graphics 1279 MB Total available graphics memory 5.8
Primary hard disk 111GB Free (233GB Total) 5.4

What security software do you have installed? Things like Norton will quite
badly slow your system way way down.

Re: Base score 5?

My security software are the following:
AVG antivirus (its free you guys should try it)
Spybot search and destroy
Windows Firewall
and Windows Defender

It looks like if i want speed i need to build myself another computer. Dual
core processor and so on. I have always liked microsoft products, but
vista is such a memory hog. sighs. Thanks everyone for their response.

Re: Base score 5?

I don't know.. my machine is only a 4.3

Opteron 175 dual core 4.9
4 Gig DDR 400 Ram 4.9

XFX 7600 GS with 512 Meg DDR2

Graphics 4.3
Gaming Graphics 4.5
Primary Hard Disk 5.3

Luckly I'm a developer and about the only games I play are hearts and
solitare when I'm compiling. I'd have thought that this machine would have
rated higher. I have both a 7600 GS with 512 Meg of DDR 2 and a 7600 GT
with 256 Meg of DDR3. The GT model only increases the Graphics by .2.

Best Regards,

Michael Gould

Re: Base score 5?

To add a little to what others have said.
Your total score will not be higher than your lowest score, there is
no averaging involved.
If you do nothing with your video, you can not even get to 4.
Based on the scores you gave, if your goal is 5 or more, you need to
replace everything except your hard drive.

Better, pay less attention to the scores and more attention to the
hardware combination that works.
Find out what other people use and use that information as a guide.

If game work fine but other "regular programs" are sluggish, my guess
is you have something wrong with your system.

Re: Base score 5?

Hey,

i have a base score of 5 but not really happy with it.

i have no idea why do i get only a 5 for my CPU. was expecting more than
5. anyone have anyidea about it? or is it really only worth 5?
