Sound Cards

I want to buy a sound card for my new Vista computer, however seeing as I
have been burned twice now by things that are not compatible I was wondering
if anyone can recommend a sound card with NO issues with Vista.

If you can get by for a while without a soundcard, I would wait.
Vista overhaul the way sound works in windows. Wait for new hardware,
new drivers and/or good reviews.

Re: Sound Cards

I don't believe there is one. Sound output is the biggest problem I've had
with Vista.

Re: Sound Cards

For right now, if you have on-board sound use that. You can get most
on-board sound vista drivers. Give it maybe about a year for companies to
develop vista drivers and sound card.

I'm using a Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer, had problems with the new latest
vista driver release from creative at first with vista 32-bit OS. But, I
found a weblink for a driver/software suite that works pretty well with the
card. No problems ever since I installed the full suite.

Many cards work in Vista, but features and software may not be _fully_
functional. Eventually this should be overcome. Vista handles sound in
a different manner than its predecessors. Thus, some things that used
to work - don't.

Re: Sound Cards

Is what your saying that Vista is not ready for prime time? Many sound cards
were developed before Vista. What are they using on new computers?

Mostly on-board audio built into the MB, I would suspect.
It may be more the case that sound card manufacturers are not quite
ready for Vista, in supporting all features previously available to XP
users. But that's only my interpretation. This may interest you...

RE: Sound Cards

you won't believe this! I had a sound card I was going to put in XP Pro; put
it in vista home premium instead, works like a dream.
It is a cheap(AU $25) card:

Re: Sound Cards

You can also go to www.windowsvista.com and search through the Hardware
Compatability List (HCL) go through it and pick one.

Re: Sound Cards -X-Fi soundard 1/2 volume

I got a separate soundcard because my onboard soundmax drivers didn't work.
I installed the X-FI and got some improvement but then I installed an
updated Creative driver and my volume is cut in half. I saw elsewhere that
this was because of a conflict with the on-board audio even that it is
disabled in the bios. Any suggestions for fixing this?

Vista was released too early in my opinion..............

Thanks.
