New computer - Compaq Presario with factory installed Vista Home Basic. I'm
using the speakers from my old HP Pavilion - Polk Audio. I can get sound
through them, it's just very, very faint. Is this a driver issue? I've
looked in my device manager and the installed driver is a Realtek HD driver.
I've been to the audio manager and troubleshot it every which way - no
solution there.



Any help at all is greatly appreciated. TIA.

No solution I am afraid, but I ahve the same problem. New computer with Vista
installed and Realtec HD driver, have bought new speakers but no sound. Have
tried everything possible to solve problem.HELP!!!!

NEW PC? No sound? Take it back to the dealer, and ask them to make it
good.

One possibility. As you say the sound is very faint, are the speakers
amplified? (i.e., do you have to plug them into a power source?). If not,
try your new PC with amplified speakers to see if that makes a difference.
Failing that...

Your best bet is to exercise your rights under the terms of the Compaq
warranty. Compaq is responsible for supporting its hardware *and* the
software that came installed on the new computer. If the PC is truly new (<
30 days) and you purchased it at a retail outlet, simply take it back and
make the seller deal with the sound issue.

Are your speakers possibly plugged into a LineOut connection instead of a
speaker connection?

I had the same problem with the sound. In the motherboard´s user´s guide
the maker wrote that if I were to use the connection on the back I had to
put two jumpers the JAUD 1 pins. This helped indeed! This is probably not
a Vista problem.

I don't have a new computer, but just upgraded to the vista. I had sound
before and don't now. Any ideas

Get the latest Vista compatible sound device driver and install it. Where
to get that depends on the sound device. If it's a retail card go to the
card manufacturer's web site. If it's an OEM setup get it from the computer
OEM's web site, and if it's an on board device get it from the motherboard
manufacturer's web site.

Thanks so much. I'll try to get that all figured out. I'm pretty sure that
the speakers came with the computer. So I assume that would be the OEM,
rather than the motherboard? Is there a way to be certain of this. Sorry that
I'm not savy with the computer knowledge.
