MS Natural Keyboard 4000 F keys...

I had this problem with the Vista beta, but I was sure it'd be fixed in the
final release. Perhaps I really just have a bad piece of hardware!!!

My keyboard worked perfectly in XP, and I always buy MS keyboards - I love
them! MS hardware in general has always pretty good - I miss the sidewinder
line. ANYway... the Vista Beta, for some reason, had issues with my
keyboard - I had NO "F" keys! F1-F12... ALL DEAD.

So I've since spent a great deal of money on Vista Ultimate, I'm
disappointed to still have this problem. Is this a known issue? Am I
overlooking something simple? Anyone else struggling with this?

Thanks so much!

Teddy

Ensure that you have 6.1 drivers installed and also ensure that you have
toggled the F-Lock key at the end of the F keys..

Re: MS Natural Keyboard 4000 F keys...

Wow - let's go with option 2: overlooking something simple. I've never even
HEARD of F-Lock. Thanks for your quick answer, and I'm off to retreat into
my noobness.

Teddy

I take it that option 2 worked?

Re: MS Natural Keyboard 4000 F keys...

Hi Mike!

I had the same problem as Teddy for a while.

And today, I had to find a solution.

And I've just read your marvelous message.

Now, it works very well with the F-Lock key. Wow!

Thanks a lot!

Re: MS Natural Keyboard 4000 F keys...

Worked quite well. :-/ But, tell me, what purpose, exactly, does an F-Lock
key serve?!?

Re: MS Natural Keyboard 4000 F keys...

If you look, you'll see that the F keys are dual function. Mine are marked
Help, Undo, Redo, etc, as well as F1, F2, F3...

F Lock sets them to 'F' keys, instead of the 'Help, Undo, etc' mode.

I think making them dual function is an appalling idea. I don't know of
anyone who uses them in non-Fx mode.

Re: MS Natural Keyboard 4000 F keys...

Just remember, if you are trying to start in Safe Mode, you will have to hit
the F-Lock key and the F8 key in rapid succession. The F-lock isn't active
until about the time that F8 is no longer active for starting in Safe Mode.
In my opinion there should be a key that would always perform the Safe Mode
entrance.
