| Guest | GeForce FX5500 vs GeForce FX5200 I presently run the FX5200. Aero works fine. Everything (bar the bloody NETWORKING with my wife's XP Pro machine!) works fine. But my FX5200 only has 128MB RAM onboard. Will upgrading to FX5500 with 256 MB onboard RAM make an appreciable difference? Both are, by necessity, 'older' style PCI cards...not PCI Express....old mother of a motherboard! Rgds |

| Guest | Re: GeForce FX5500 vs GeForce FX5200 Many of the current graphics cards are also available as AGP cards. Vista and Vista Aero will run with 128MB graphics cards so I don't se any real need for you to upgrade for so little performance gain. Is there a specific application you are trying to improve the performance of? | Guest | Re: GeForce FX5500 vs GeForce FX5200 Media Player is a little, at times, 'jumpy'. Apart from that, no, not really. But my PC's basics are OLD, hence a PCI card in the first instance. Vista will probably be the last ne OS on it, and as I may have trouble getting 'new' PCI-anythings in the future, just thought I'd get a new card now... Rgds n tks for response! According to knowledgeable folks whom I have consulted, increasing memory will not reap rewards. As you suspect, spending on AGP is not cost effective. I use exactly the same video here, with the most recent driver that supports it, and all is well. There need be no concern for later drivers, which do not support the 5200 card. They may incorporate features that you don't need, or don't have on the older box, but might take advantage of when you buy new at a future date. |

| Guest | Re: GeForce FX5500 vs GeForce FX5200 Then the 5500 card should help but it does need to have more memory.
