Hey guys,

I recently upgraded my system from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate, and
since that time, I have been unable to use my sound card. Though speakers
are detected, the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder service refuses to start,
giving the error "0x80070002: The system cannot find the specified file."
Needless to say, I have no clue what file can't be found... I've tried
countless solutions, but none have worked so far.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and actually fixed it?

Michael Katz,

Check in Device Manager for indications of what the problem is. Device
Manager includes options for reinstalling drivers, for updating drivers, and
for other troubleshooting. If Device Manager indicates that all devices are
functioning properly, then post back for other possible solutions.

Hi Charles,

I upgraded from another version of Vista. The drivers were already Vista
compliant. Judging by a quick search on Google, I'm not the only one running
into issues using this sound card with Ultimate.

Hi Freddy,

There's nothing showing up in the Device Manager related to either my codecs
or sound card. I'm going to try reinstalling again, but based on the past 17
attempts, I'll venture a guess that it won't work this time either...

Obviously, didn't read your post carefully. However, I had the same problem
when installing Windows XP in 2002. I eventually returned to the onboard
sound. Sorry to have been no help.

Perhaps not your issue, but I run Audigy 4 here and its drivers failed
to load when Vista was upgraded from the RC2 release.

Been a while, but I recall that an install of the latest Vista-compliant
driver from Creative was the fix, and all has worked well since - though
software utilities bundled with the card do not.

No worries You tried... I'm hoping that they have a solution at some
point, because I may have to downgrade (if that's even possible), and I like
Ultimate thus far.

Doesn't look like there's anything there that will help right now. I think
my issue is linked to SigmaTel as well, though I don't quite understand how
this has occurred after an install to another version of Vista. You'd think
that keeping the same OS would prevent compatibility issues, but I guess
not. Lesson learned: NEVER BUY CREATIVE.
