Vista cannot turn off my LCD!!!

Hello,

From the very outset (fresh instal, Vista only, no additional software, no
additional third-party drivers) Vista could not turn off LCD/launch screen
saver or fall asleep according to Power Management settings when I'm logged
in.

The whole situation goes as follows:
- I set some dalays in Power Management
- when I'm logged in Vista can neither turn off LCD nor fall asleep
- when I'm logged off (Vista on logon screen) everything is ok (i.e. after a
few minuts LCD goes off and them comp sleeps)

When I tried to use software with a function of turning off the display it
didn't work so it seems that somehow Vista canont initate the "turn off
display" counter or some service/device resets it all the time.

Microsoft, please help me to find the cause.

Sine it only happens when you're logged in, the most likely culprit is some
software you have installed under your user profile; most likely something
that runs on its own. This could be antivirus software, system maintenance
software or, if you are connected to an always on broadband connection, some
software automatically look for updates. This type of activity could
prevent the system from going to sleep and/or prevent the monitor from
shutting shutting off as such things would be detected as the system being
active instead of idle.

Re: Vista cannot turn off my LCD!!!

additionally it could be something as simple as a wireless mouse.

Re: Vista cannot turn off my LCD!!!

This problem happens when there is no additional software - just fresh Vista.

Wireless mouse? Indeed I have MS Laser 6000, but:
1. on XP it worked fine (i.e. I had my LCD off after a few minutes)
2. if it was the case it should also prevent Vista from turning off the
display on logon screen (mouse driver is already installed at this point)
3. I don't expece Microsoft not to check compatibility of Vista with their
own hardware

Re: Vista cannot turn off my LCD!!!

try plugging in a regular wired mouse and see what happens.

there are lots and lots of ms programs that have not been updated for vista and a several train loads of drivers still waiting for updating.

RE: Vista cannot turn off my LCD!!!

Hello, I had the same problem and fixed it by accident. Go to windows update
, check for hidden updates and install all of the updates. There were three
that I didnt really know what they were for. I installed them hoping that it
would fix a dvd burner problem, but was nicely suprised when my screensaver
and energy saver started working again.
Good luck

RE: Vista cannot turn off my LCD!!!

but I didn't know its purpouse and skipped it all the time).

RE: Vista cannot turn off my LCD!!!

The only problem I have now is that when I watch TV the software (Compro
Videomate) does not switch this feature off. I wonder if there is some
solution to the case (I will write to Compro as soon as possible).
