| Guest | No USB device working in Vista while it is recognized through bios Hi I managed to work with my newly installed Vista Home for a few weeks. Yesterday I installed a docking station for my new Sony Handycam and the corresponding drivers and from that moment all my usb devices have failed to recognise. Nothing happens when I plug them in. I can't even use my wireless mous and keyboard. However, when I enter the computer's setup I see that my 3 usb mass storage devices are nicely recognised. So the usb ports themselves seem to be ok. But when Vista has started up, nothing works. Even the internal wifi card (connected through usb) on my Asus p5b deluxe/wifi motherboard does not work (and does not show in the device manager). There are no devices with exclamation marks in the device manager. All usb related devices seem to work properly. Is there a way to remove all present drivers of all usb devices and usb hubs, so I can one-by-one try to reinstall everything? Or does anyone have a better idea? I'm getting desperate... Thanks. | Guest | RE: No USB device working in Vista while it is recognized through bios sjors123, Here is a site that offers steps for troubleshooting USB issues. It may not be for the model of pc that you own, but that fact doesn't matter as the steps involved hold for other brands as well: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/g...name=c00820197 If this information doesn't help resolve your issue, post back and perhaps we can find another approach. -- freddy "sjors123" wrote: > Hi > > I managed to work with my newly installed Vista Home for a few weeks. > Yesterday I installed a docking station for my new Sony Handycam and > the corresponding drivers and from that moment all my usb devices have > failed to recognise. | Guest | RE: No USB device working in Vista while it is recognized through bios sjors123, If the above troubleshooting steps dont's resolve the problem, try checking a Vista report for specific errors and corrective measures to take: Click on Start (icon) and select All Programs. Then, select Maintenance > Problem Reports and Solutions. When that report opens, select from among the Tasks on the left margin and elsewhere. Peruse the report and look for any specific information about what caused your problem (or other problems while you're at it). If you get some insight from the report, take the corrective action suggested in the report. Just something to try, since Vista logs errors and hopefully it will in this case. Let us know whether any of this is useful. We like to know, too. -- freddy "sjors123" wrote: > Hi > > I managed to work with my newly installed Vista Home for a few weeks. > Yesterday I installed a docking station for my new Sony Handycam and > the corresponding drivers and from that moment all my usb devices have > failed to recognise. | Guest | Re: No USB device working in Vista while it is recognized through bios Well, after a day (and half a night) of hard work I managed to get everything back connected and working again. The only way I managed this was by plugging in a 7 port hub with its own power supply, and plugging all devices into that hub one by one. When I use the usb ports on the pc devices only got recognised on starting up Vista -> disconnecting and connecting again resulted in disappearance of the device. So now only 1 usb port on my pc is used for the hub. All devices are connected to that hub and they are hot pluggable. Disconnecting the hub however makes all devices disappear and reconnecting the hub again has no effect. Nothing is recognised. But hey, why should I want to disconnect the hub? So this solution works fine - although I have no explanation for it...
