Vista - Vista Driver Update for Radeon Mobility 9200 does not work

I use a HP Compaq nx7000 Notebook with Radeon Mobility 9200 Graphics. Updated
it from WinXP to Vista. Using a generic VGA Driver it works, but very slow
and only in generic screen resolutions. But after installation Windows Update
loads an updated driver for ATI Mobility Radeon 9200, Version 6.14.10.6606,
dated 31.07.2006 and signed by MS Windows hardware compatibility pack. If
this driver is installed my nice 1680x1050 screen gets insane and only help
is to go back to last secured point of vista. Anyone with same problem?
Solutions? Other driver that works better?

I'd look to see whether there's even a more current driver than the one you
have, and if there is, I'd install that. Check the website of the
manufacturer of your laptop for more recent drivers, or the site of the
manufacturer of you graphics card/chip, whichever has the driver.
