I Can't Install an Olympus Camera or a Kodak Card Reader

I have Vista Home Premium on a no-name computer I assembled myself running 2
GB of RAM. It has performed flawlessly since installation about the time
Vista was released here in Australia, till now.
We bought an Olympus FE-210 digital camera and a Kodak 8-in-1 Card Reader to
read the xD card in the camera, but I can't get the computer to install
either of them.
In both cases, the items are connected exactly per instructions to a USB
port, and I have tried several ports that I know work with my mobile phone
and a bluetooth adapter. In each case, the "Found New Hardware" Wizard pops
up and after telling it to "Locate and install driver software" it says it is
installing the device, but then asks to "Insert the disk that came with your
(the device)". Of course there is no driver software for Vista for either of
these plug and play devices, so ultimately after going through the options,
the installation fails.
Also, about every second day, the machine decides not to recognise my E
drive, which is a CD-ROM; my F drive is a DVD Burner and it always recognises
that. Asking it to find new hardware solves the problem.
What is wrong?

Rubberknuckle,

Here is a link to some tips on troubleshooting camera connection problems:

http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...bb6df1033.mspx

If you can't find a resolution for your issue, make sure you have downloaded
and installed all the Vista updates from the Microsoft update site. Let us
know how you do with this.

Re: I Can't Install an Olympus Camera or a Kodak Card Reader

In regards to the Kodak 8-in-1 Card Reader, have you installed the Kodak Easy
Share software for Vista Ver. 6.2.2 from here:

http://www.kodak.com/global/en/servi...l?pq-path=4422

If it asks you to install QuickTime, do NOT; there is a much later version
available at Apple.com.

Have you visited the Olympus site for any drivers?

RE: I Can't Install an Olympus Camera

Solved!! I saw a reference to reloading Vista, but this time as an upgrade.
I tried that, it took over 4 hours, but it worked. The camera and card
reader installed in seconds. Not sure why this should be, but as long as it
works.

Rubberknuckle,

Nice going. Where did you see the reference to reinstalling Vista? I might
learn something, which could be scary.
