Blue screen after plugging in ethernet cable

I get a blue screen with errors when I plug in the ethernet cable from the
modem....Please help!

More details would help us to advise you. For example, did you upgrade
to Vista from an older version of Windows? Did you buy a new computer
with Vista already installed? What brand of computer do you have, and
is your modem a DSL modem?

Brand new computer w/ Vista already installed and I am running on a cable
modem. I am able to access the internet through USB port. Modem is
Scientific Atlanta.

That's interesting but also confusing. How do you access the internet
using USB?
