Vista - 1gig of RAM showing as 767 mb

Is this normal for vista to show this?
Im running the 32 bit version

It is normal if ram is shared for video, particularly common in laptops.

I've checked out the BIOS though and it still says 767 mb RAM
And I thought the most memory the Graphics card could from the RAM is 128 mb?

Dave91,

The following article explains how Vista uses 4 GB of RAM, but I suspect the
same principle applies to using 1 GB of RAM:

The upshot is that the system reserves a certain amount of RAM for its
exclusive use, leaving less available for general use. How all this plays
out depends on a user's hardware configuration and also on BIOS. Complicated
stuff.

If your BIOS is telling you 767 MB, it's not a Vista issue.
I suggest you contact your laptop manufacturer's tech support and ask for an
explanation.
It looks to me like your video has no memory of its own and is using 256 MB.
In my inexpensive Gateway laptop, The BIOS tells me I have 1024 MB with 64
MB borrowed by the video adapter (added to the 64 MB on the adapter itself).
Vista tells me 960 MB available.
You might ask Asus if there is a way to reduce your video memory use to 128
MB.

so you have only 1memory stick of 1GB or 2 of 512MB? or what?
were you using windows xp in this computer before?
try reseating memory, then load default settings in the BIOS.
you might consider calling the manufacturer for a BIOS update

Dave, go to http://www.memtest.org/#downiso and download this program. When
you boot from either the CD or Floppy, you should see exactly how much ram
you have, and if it is working correctly. If this program only shows 768
mb of RAM being tested then you were short changed on the amount of RAM that
was supposed to be installed. You would have one stick of 512mb and one
stick of 256mb of RAM installed.

Some shared memory graphics cards can share more then 128MB of main memory.
Check in your BIOS to find out how much shared memory yours is set up to be
able to use.
Also how many of what size dimm chips do you have. And if it is DDR2 memory
it would appear that you don't have matched pairs.

This is not true, with 1GB RAM there is enaugh addressspace.

Well... is your BIOS is showing 768MB total INSTALLED RAM or
total -available- RAM? It's been years since I looked at a Toshiba BIOS. If
you have a laptop, you either have a single 1GB RAM stick or 2 512MB sticks.
Hard to believe you'd have one 512 stick and two 256 sticks. Although, I
guess, anything is possible. Because that's what 512 and 256 equal... 768.
So... assuming you've got either one 1GB stick or 2 512MB sticks... then
your BIOS is probably setting aside 256MB for video RAM. What amount of RAM
does your BIOS settings say is assigned to video RAM?
