Protection Stub has stopped working

When I try to play my game (Age of Empires III) a box comes up saying
Protection Stub has stopped working. I recently uninstalled DVD Play, as I am
an idiot and thought it was something I didn't use, I am presuming it is
because of this it is not working, however can not be sure. My comp is an HP
Pavilion m7565a media center and I am using vista home premium.
