Slow firewire file transfers

I have two firewire hard drives plugged into an pci-e firewire card. When I
try to transfer files off either of the firewire hard drives, it's
ridiculously slow at speeds less than 4 MB/sec. This only started happening
after I reinstalled Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I'm not sure what to check to
figure out what's causing this very slow transfer.

Any ideas?

RE: Slow firewire file transfers

gear02,

Check whether there are Vista compatible 64 bit drivers for that pci-e
firewire card. Just a logical comment on my part, since I don't know
specifically what's causing your issue, but it follows that, if the card was
working properly before the upgrade, then the problem likely has something to
do with the upgrade. It's possible the the upgrade to Vista Ultimate 64
installed the correct drivers, but I have no way of knowing.

RE: Slow firewire file transfers

Thanks Freddy.

The pci-e card I have is brand new, purchased and installed after the
reinstall of vista. I had a PCI card and I thought that was the problem so I
switched. Therefore it's not the card itself, but I have a feeling it's a
driver issue. Two cards, same slow speeds.

Not sure if this will help you or not, but it is worth a shot.

RE: Slow firewire file transfers

gear02,

I would agree that it's not the card itself, but likely a driver issue.
That's the point of my initial comment in that are you sure you have Vista 64
bit firewire drivers installed. You didn't respond to that point. Other
than that, you can contact the manufacturer of the card to obtain more
definitive guidance on the matter. I'm really no knowledgeable tech about
firewire and Vista 64 bit systems. I'm relying on simple logic.
