Question - Is DirectX 8.1 H/W + DirectX 9.0 S/W enough?

Does anyone know whether DirectX 8.1 H/W and Microsoft DirectX 9.0 S/W
capability is enough to run the basic (not Aero) Vista glass?

FYI, I ran Vista without Aero and it appeared to be working great except for
running DVD's in MP11, which were choppy. Everything else is looking good but
i want to make sure before I decide to keep or sell this notebook.

My Acer notebook has 512MB of RAM and an SiS M760GX chipset for AMD Turion.
The chipset description says it is 8.1 hardware compliant and 9.0 software
compliant. Is 8.1 for hardware enough?

SiS Mirageâ„¢ Graphic Engine
Powered by SiS Mirageâ„¢ 2 Graphic Engine. Microsoft DirectX 8.1 H/W and
Microsoft DirectX 9.0 S/W compliant

Unless there is something new, I only know of Aero Glass, there isn't any
"basic" glass that isn't Aero. As for 8.1 DX hardware, no, that won't work for
glass. It needs at least DX9 and Pixel Shader 2

There are two versions of Aero though, Aero and Aero Glass. The second
requires more graphics capability than the first.
