IDE Mass Storage Controller

I have a Mass Storage Controller that Vista won't install. It's manufactured
by Ultra. Any ideas?

RE: IDE Mass Storage Controller

hummvee69,

If you have an Ultra IDE controller board in your computer, you need to
install the drivers for that board. Check to see whether you can find some
Vista compatible driver support at the manufacturer's website.

RE: IDE Mass Storage Controller

I have an XP driver for this on a disc, but "add hardware" doesn't detect my
card. There are also no "Mass Storage" devices or "IDE Controllers" that
match my card. "Have disc" doesn't work either. I know the card is working
because it detects the hard drives during start-up. No drivers from the
manufacturer.

RE: IDE Mass Storage Controller

hummvee69,

The card and driver must be Vista compatible. You may be able to figure out
a way to install and to run the XP drivers in compatibility mode, but I have
no idea whether that would work in your case. You can try it to see what
happens. If all else fails, your only option is to purchase and install a
Vista compatible card with driver. You can use the Windows Help and Support
feature under Start to learn about using compatibility mode. Just search on
Compatibility Mode.
