    Device Driver

Vista has installed the wrong drivers for both my Wireless adapter and LAN
NIC card. It works correctly with the wrong drivers but crashes / won't
install the correct drivers. How can I fix this problem?

    RE: Device Driver

In the Device Manager, right click on the Device and select Update Driver
Software. Select Browse my computer for driver software>Select Let me pick
from a list>Select your Device type from the list>Select Have Disk>Select
Browse>Point this to the CD or driver download for you device. Hope this
    helps.

When I do that the device crashes. Oddly it works fine with the wrong
    drivers, though.

If the wireless adapter and nic card are working fine, I would just wait
until Vista drivers come out from the manufacturer.

    RE: Device Driver

Thats what I will probably have to do. Do the drivers from XP not work in
Vista then? Usually I am more conserned about having the correct hardware
    than the correct OS.

    Re: Device Driver

Then stick with the "wrong drivers" if it works.
A correctly written "generic/wrong" Vista driver will be better than a
"correct" XP driver that does not work on Vista...

    Re: Device Driver

I guess I'm used to how XP works. In XP drivers from the wrong OS usually
work better than gerneric drivers, but I guess not in Vista.

    Re: Device Driver

If both your Wireless and NIC are working correctly with the default
drivers, I personally would feel very grateful and leave well alone. I have
a Netgear GA311 NIC but the drivers Vista installed say Realtek RTL8169.
This is because the chipset that Netgear use is made by Realtek, all Netgear
do is solder the chips onto a circuit board.

    Regards Mike
