optical drive not recognised by vista

My LG-Hitachi Gsa-4160b was working fine but does not appear on "my computer"
anymore. It is lighting up and ejecting when you press the button but Vista
seems to have stopped recognising it. On start up the it is recognised along
with the harddrive. I have tried to get Vista to update the drivers for it
but I get an error saying it cannot update them. What is wrong?

Re: optical drive not recognised by vista

Try Method 2 ("Manually delete the registry entries") in this article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us

RE: optical drive not recognised by vista

almidillo,

The following link may provide a solution. Follow the instructions on the
following Microsoft article to remove upper and lower filters:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929461

Sometimes this solution works, but who knows until you try it. Post back on
the results.

RE: optical drive not recognised by vista

freddy,
This seems to have sorted me. When I got to the file on my computer there
was only the Lower Filters available to delete, but that has done the trick.
Thanks for your help on this one. - Almidillo
